For example:

|3X +6|= 15

That is

3X + 6 = 15

3X = 15 - 6

3X = 9

X= 9/3

X= 3

ALSO

3X + 6 = -15

3X = -15 -6

3X = -21

X= -21/3

X= -7

The solution is X = 3 or X = -7

Absolute value equations need to be set up with positive and negative results.
